Freedom – How free are you?

We have just enjoyed a wonderful 4th of July weekend wherein we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring our independence from Great Britain. While America has its problems, it is still the greatest country on earth. If you don’t believe it, ask all the people clamoring to come into our country, using almost any means possible, or ask those who send their children here to be educated in our universities, speak to all those who come from all parts of the globe to be treated in our medical facilities. Yes, even with all our problems, America is still the greatest country on earth.

What about you and your personal freedoms? How free do you feel? I am not talking how free you feel in this country, but how free to you feel personally? Do you feel enslaved to your job? How free are you?

I believe this kind of freedom has less to do with the country you live in and more about your state of mind and attitude. Ironically, until you get a handle on this kind of freedom, you likely can’t fully appreciate the freedoms we enjoy in America.

Freedom-ExitIn our country and culture, we often equate “value” to our material possessions, how much money we make and our net worth. We are told that this is what we should be working for. So where is the freedom in this? What would look different in your life if you were not so focused on creating the “value” that our culture says you should be creating and focused on really being free – free to do the things on your terms, to earn a living doing what you really enjoy, focusing on the things that you find value in. Only you can decide what freedom is worth in your life. Don’t let others determine that. Live free.

No, freedom is not free, but it is freeing.

I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July weekend.

God bless America.
